American Master
I discovered a little more than flowers. I discovered a lot more about the artist Georgia O'keeffe. (America Art Fall 2006). I didn't know much until skimming the magazine America Art, and came across some fascinating pictures she had crafted during her time living in New Mexico. Her use of oil paints almost look like watercolors, for they are so light, and it makes her pieces breathe with energy and craft. Goat's Horn with Red, done in pastel echos the west with a rebellious undertone. The spiraling horn takes on a new form with using the kind of color qualities of her previous floral compositions. It makes the skull come alive with color and vibrancy that is unique to her works. I found it interesting that many are trying to map out her genius by following trails, where she may have worked. Using clues left behind by the oils of red and blue.
